Abstract The improvement of abiotic stress tolerance in barley depends on understanding the range of genetic variation possessed by cultivated barley(Hordeum vulgare subsp.vulgare L.)and wild barley(H. vulgare subsp. spontaneum C. Koch.).Among abiotic stresses, soil salinity is the most devastating threat contributing to limited crop productivity on global scale.Little information is known about the regulatory mechanisms controlling stress responses, mainly because all stress responses involve too many genes. The present study was conducted to evaluate the performance of different barley genotypes under salt stress and try to figure out the genetic pattern association to salt stress.Twenty barley genotypes differed in their tolerance potentiality against salinity were selected from 48 barley genotypes and were planted in two screening field experiments at two locations;Sakha (as a control)and El-Serw (as saline condition)to detect their tolerance to salt stress. Molecular analyses were carried out to determine marker(s) using SSR-markers technique that could be associated with salt stress. |
