Abstract This study was carried out during the period from 2009 to 2012 at Kafr El-Zayat district,El-Gharbya governorate to produce some local superior hybrids of melon(Cucumis melo L.).Also,heterosis,inbreeding depression, nature of gene action, general and specific combining ability and heritability were determined. The present work was divided into two parts as follows:The first part: Diallel crosses The genetic materials used in this study included six inbred lines of melon. These lines were obtained after four generations of inbreeding and selection Seeds of these six parental lines were sown in the summer season of 2009 Crossing among the lines were made in a half diallel fashion to produce fifteen F1 hybrids In the fall season of 2009,seeds of the six parental lines were sown and selfed to produce adequate parental seeds. At the same time crossing were repeated among the parental lines to produce enough F1 seeds, plants of the fifteen F1 hybrids were selfed to produce fifteen F2 seeds All developed genotypes;i.e.;[6 parental lines,15 F1s and 15 F2] in addition to Gal52 F1 hybrid as commercial check, were sown in a trial experiment at the summer season of 2011. |
