Abstract The management of trigeminal neuralgia is difficult. The rapid establishment of a correct diagnosis and prompt institution of treatment are of paramount importance because the symptoms are so severe. Treatment of trigeminal neuralgia that did not respond to conservative treatment was injection of some materials as streptomycin to achieve long- term analgesia while preserving sensory functions of the trigeminal nerve at the same time. Recently Botox, were found to be highly effective in restablishing normal sensation and relieving the symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia. This study was planned in order to compare between local injection of Botulinum toxin type A (Botox) and streptomycin in the treatment of peripheral trigeminal neuralgia both clinically and histologically. |
