Abstract
This thesis includes three .chapters. The first of which is a review of the
literature on the chemistry of benzimidazoles and related derivatives.
Different substituted benzimdazole analogs having electron withdrawing and
electron releasing groups on the benzimidazole nucleus were prepared. 2-(L-Arabino-
tetritol-l-yl)naphthimidazole was also prer,ared. Structures of the synthesized
benzimidazole analogs were determined by H NMR, l3C NMR, 2D NMR, I H_13C Correlation Spectroscopic (COSY), high resolution mass spectrometry, combustion analyses and optical rotation.
