Abstract The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of PQRST strategy in developing some EFL reading comprehension and study skills among secondary school students. Literature was reviewed and a list of the sub- skills was constructed, validated, administered and analyzed. The main purpose of this list was to identify the sub- skills of reading comprehension and study skills which were needed for the target population. In the light of data obtained from analyzing the reading comprehension / study skills list, the objectives of the PQRST- based program were stated and the program was designed. The study adopted the experimental pre-test, post-test experimental / control group design. A random sample of 70 students of the secondary school was chosen, 35 acted as an experimental group and 35 as a control group. The experimental group was taught through the PQRST- based program for developing their reading comprehension and study skills. On the other hand, students in the control group received regular instruction. A reading comprehension test was designed to be used as a pre-post test to assess the students’ progress in reading comprehension skills. Also, a study skills questionnaire and a study skills test were designed to be used as a pre- post test to assess the students’ study skills. By the end of the experimentation, a post-test was administered to both the experimental and control groups to find out the effectiveness of the PQRSTbased program in developing the experimental group students’ reading comprehension and study skills. The results of the study were positive; the study hypotheses were accepted. There were statistically significant differences at 0.01 levels between the mean scores of the experimental group students and the control group students on the reading comprehension and study skills in favor of the experimental group. It was concluded that the present study provided evidence in the effectiveness of PQRST strategy in developing reading comprehension and study skills among the first year secondary school students.
