Abstract This report presents the assessment of fully encased and concrete filled composite columns based on approaches given in Egyptian code of practice for steel construction and bridges (ASD), Egyptian code of practice for steel construction (LRFD), American institute of steel construction (ASD), American institute of steel construction (LRFD),and Euro code 4. This includes studies on the design parameters, comparison of the nominal strength calculated by the five codes. Composite column modeling techniques are discussed with introducing a proposed modeling method. Design tables generated according to Egyptian code of practice for steel construction and bridges (ASD) and Egyptian code of practice for steel construction (LRFD)are developed to be used as design aids. The accuracy and reliability of the results are demonstrated by design excel sheets, design flow charts, manual solved examples and design tables on column subjected to axial load. |
