Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a program based on reciprocal teaching in developing instructional speaking skills of English department students in Faculties of Education. Consequently, the study’s main question was ” How effective is the proposed reciprocal teaching-based program in developing the instructional speaking skills of English department students in Faculties of Education?” The subjects in this study were twenty-two third year English Department students in Port-said Faculty of Education in the academic year 2009-2010. They represented the study experimental group who participated in the nine sessions of the reciprocal teaching-based program. The researcher designed a checklist of the instructional speaking skills to be developed throughout the program and to be measured by the pre-post test to evaluate the students’ performance. The results of the study revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the students in the pre-post test of instructional speaking skills, in favor of the post test. This indicates the efficiency of the proposed program in developing the subjects’ instructional speaking skills. |
