Abstract

The current work was conducted to study the behavior of ferrocement water tanks and ferrocement pipes. Damage detection for ferrocemnt tanks using thier dynamic properties (mode shapes and frequencies) was investigated experimentally and theoretically. A comparison between healthy and damage ferrocement tank was presented to estimate their dynamic properties. Also the current study developed an theoretical model for the water tanks to find their dynamic properties. This model depended on the finite element method using ANSYS program and SAP program. Furthermore a comparison between the results of the developed FE models and the experimental work were presented. An experimental study to investigate the effect of using the ferrocement concept in design and construct water tanks was conducted. A comparison between two models of ferrocement tank with different systems of reinforcement was presented under increasable static load up to failure. In this study, new technique additionally experimental study was presented to investigate the behavior of the ferrocement pipes under increasable static load up to failure. Four different of ferrocement pipes with different systems of reinforcement were casted and tested to estimate the first crack load and the failure load. Also one reinforced concrete pipe was cast and tested. Then the behavior of the reinforced concrete pipe was compared with the behavior of the ferrocement pipes. An experimental comparison between ferrocement pipe and conventionally concrete pipe was presented to estimate the failure capacity and the shape of failure under impact load. An economic study of ferrocement water tanks and pipes was also conducted. Recommendations for practical applications and suggestions for further research studies in the field of ferrocement as a constructing material were briefly discussed.
