Abstract

T
he liver is one of the most important vital organs in the body. It plays an important role in digestion, various metabolic transformations, and storage of many important substances.
Among the different diseases that involve the liver, hepatic focal lesions represent an important category, which for long, have represented a real problem in diagnosis that require an extensive effort that does not go along with the need to provide immediate plane for treatment once the cause is discovered.
Our emphasis in this work was to solve this problem relaying on the most recent discovery in this field.
Until recently, liver examination by the ultrasonography (U/S), the triphasic computed tomography (CT), positron emission computed tomography (PET/CT) or the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), all what could be accomplished is the detection of hepatic focal lesion with a large scale of differential diagnosis, but to reach a final diagnosis additional steps and more time are required such as taking a CT-guided biopsy or other investigations. These procedures require time and costs money added to that the delay in patient treatment protocols.
In this research, we have concluded that in order to reach a final and quick diagnosis is to relay on some new contrast agents.
These contrast agents are injected during examination and have variable natures and properties, their names, side effects and mechanism of action have been discussed in details before in this research.
These contrast media, when injected, give different and characteristic enhancement patterns that could be easily analyzed and lead to direct and real diagnosis through studying different enhancement pattern character associated with each liver pathology either benign or malignant or even degenerative through this study can be easily reach the final diagnosis of most of liver pathologies in one imaging examination
