Abstract

Zinc is an essential trace element that must be supplied in the diet of mammals. Its deficiency during development is characterized by retarded growth and poor development of the whole body.Zinc deficiency now is a clearly recongnized sign occurring particularly in Egypt .It is caused especially by neglecting intake of animal protein and by consumption of large amounts of cereals rich in phytic acid (as wheat and maize bread) which impairs the intestinal absorption of Zinc.
Fourty five healthy pregnant female rats of average weight from 150-200 gm were useed in this study.they divided into three groups according to the zinc content of diet:
group I(control):received the normal basal diet with zinc concentration 40-60 ppm was added to it in the form of zinc sulphate
.
group II:received zinc-deficient diet with zinc concentration 2ppm
group III;received rich zinc – supplemented diet with zinc concentration 100 ppm
After 28 days (pregnancy period) on these diets, the offspring were sacrified at birth, two weeks and one month. The lower jaw of all offspring were dissected out and their anterior teeth were dissected free then the specimens were processed and prepared for histological and histochemical examination
