Abstract

A laboratory experiment was laid out at Faculty Agriculture, Mansoura University, Egypt during April and May to study the performance of two mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) IV2010, Kawmy-1 cultivars to germination under salinity stress and their interaction. This study was carried out to confirm mungbean seedling growth performance and to examine a range of genetic variability for salinity tolerance among mungbean cultivars under eight salinity levels .
The main results of this investigation could be summarized as follows:
•from obtained results the mungbean cultivars significantly varied in means of Final Germination Percentage (FGP), Energy of germination (EG), Mean germination time (MGT), Germination Index (GI), Vigor Index (VI), Abnormal seed percentage (ASP), Coefficient velocity (CV), Root Length, Shoot Length, Root Fresh Weight, Shoot Fresh Weight, Root Dry Weight, Relative Dry Weight and Seedling Height Reduction. IV2010 cultivars had positive effects in most of studied characters while, Kawmy-1 cultivars had negative effects in most of germination parameters under study.
• All studied characters were insignificantly affected by the interaction be-tween cultivars and salinity stress, Energy of germination (EG), Mean germination time (MGT), Coefficient velocity (CV) and Seedling Height Reduction were significantly affect by interaction. It could be concluded that for maximizing mungbean seed germination parameters and seedling characters under salinity stress are producing by sowing IV2010 cultivar with increasing salinity concentrations levels up to 6 dSm-1 NaCl. This cultivar was more tolerant to salinity and recommended to use in breeding program for enhancing mungbean cultivation in newly reclaimed soils.
