Abstract

Aspergillus species are of the most important fungi isolated from samples of infected peanut (seeds and shells) collected from different localities of El-Sharkia Governorate, Egypt during 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 peanut growing seasons. The isolates of Aspergillus species were identified as Aspergillus niger var. tieghem, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus flavus var. columnaris and Aspergillus parasiticus.
Extracted Aflatoxins from Aspergillus spp. were isolated from samples of infected peanut naturally infected (seeds, shells and pods) and identified using spotting on TLC slide as Aflatoxin B1, Aflatoxin B2 from Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus flavus var. columnaris and Aspergillus parasiticus and Ochratoxin A from Aspergillus niger var. tieghem.
Control studies revealed that Trichoderma spp., Bacillus spp. Garlic cloves, Onion and Neem leaf extracts as well as the fungicide Vitavax, Captan and Topsin-M have the ability to cause reduction in the mycelial growth of the pathogenic fungal species.
