Abstract This report is concerned with the Operation and Performance of Steam Power Plants. It introduces all parts of the plants to generate electricity, steam, especially the power station at sidi krir. It explains the waste heat recovery system, its classification ; applications and its effect on efficiency and economy of power plants, also the various types of equipment which are used in the Heat Recovery. Boiler operation and maintenance requirements are illustrated by explaining the startup, shut down and different operation cases of waste heat boiler and the periodical maintenance requirements. Also it includes several types of boiler system failures describing the most harmful failures such as failures due to corrosion, over-heating, acidic attack and boiler design problems. As a main root cause of any boiler failure, Boiler tubes, how to select the material, length and wall thickness of the tubes are presented during this report. Tube inspection is essential for boiler tube failure which is represented in this work. Also it shows the procedures of boiler tubes failure analysis and industrial cases of failures are presented to show the effect of different failures type as fatigue failure, erosion failure and short-term overheating failure. |
