Abstract Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts from cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that may grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body. The disease occurs almost entirely in women, but men can get it, too. This work is organized to investigate the role exerted by glutathione transferase, endothelial nitric oxide and vitamin D receptor release associated with individual genetic make up and that is represented in their gene polymorphisms on breast cancer susceptibility and/or severity in Egyptian population. Subjects included in this case-controlled cross-sectional study constituted 100 cases of breast cancer in addition to 100 subjects as healthy controls. The cases were selected from Oncology and Radiotherapy Department, Faculty of Medicine, Mansoura University Hospital. Analyzing studied Egyptian cases for combined genotypes regarding the 4 studied genes polymorphisms, a certain pattern could be found to play a role in breast cancer disease susceptibility and/or severity. Maximum risk genotypes included (eNOS3 C/C with VDR F/f; OR=20.8,95%CI=1.19-363.8),(eNOS3 T/T with null GSTT1; OR=8.0,95%CI=2.31-28.19),(eNOS3 C/C with null GSTT1; OR=13.5,95%CI=1.72-105.99),(eNOS3C/C with present GSTM1; OR=20.8,95%CI=1.19-363.8),(VDR F/F with null GSTT1; OR=6.25,95%CI=2.60-15.0),(VDR F/F with null GSTM1; OR=3.5,95%CI=1.59-7.68) and (Null GSTT1 with present GSTM1; OR=4.9,95%CI=2.12-11.41) .On the other hand, maximum protection genotypes included heterozygous genotypes (eNOS3 T/T with VDR F/f; OR=0.21,95%CI=0.08-0.55),(eNOS3 T/T with present GSTT1; OR=0.12,95%CI=0.05-0.27),(eNOS3 T/T with present GSTM1; OR=0.28,95%CI=0.14-0.58),(VDR F/F with present GSTT1; OR=0.41,95%CI=0.22-0.74) and (Present GSTT1 with present GSTM1; OR=0.33,95%CI=0.18-0.61). |
