Abstract

Pure Arabian horse sharing in racing and equestrian events that support the trade and exportation must becompletely healthy and free from any viral or bacterial infectious diseases.
Equine influenza (El) is considered the most economically important respiratory disease of equines.
Vaccination has become the primary method for the effective • control of equine influenza.
The present study was designated to prepare and evaluate inactivated equine influenza virus vaccine, and this could be summarized in these basic points:
1- Preparation of inactivated El freeze dried vaccine:
The virus suspension was prepared from local isolate of EI-2
(A/equi-2/ Alex/l-2008), which propagated in ECE (9-11 days old)
for l3P.
Infectivity titer of El vaccine virus suspension in 9-11 days
old ECE was 9.5 10g\O EIDso.
EI-2 was completely inactivated at 37°C after 18 hours with
BEl at final concentration of 0.003 M but a residual infective virus
was noted after 36 hours with BEl at concentration of 0.0015.
The inactivated virus suspension was proved free from
residual infective virus in ECE 9- 11 days old.
The inactivated virus suspension was freeze dried in Edward’s
apparatus.
