Abstract

This essay is a study on the awake craniotomy procedure.
Pharmacology of different drugs which are used in this procedure is
discussed at first.
Then, indications and advantages of awake craniotomy, patient
selection, patient preparation and premedication are described in the
preoperative management.
Anesthetic management includes the patient positioning and basic
monitoring, various anesthetic techniques and protocols used in the
procedure, methods of airway and ventilation management, and
types of regional block performed.
Methods of intraoperative monitoring and cortical mapping are
explained in details and finally management of the postoperative
period is discussed
