Abstract

Positioning in indoor environments can be done using Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) Access Points which already installed in most of buildings. This can be reached by building a configurable WLAN platform. Ac curacy of Time Difference of Arrival estimation is estimated using the WL/\N frame preamble. It can be maximized if Estimation of Signal Parar ictcrs via Rotational Invariance Technique (ESPRIT) is used to estimate from long training symbols of the WLAN frame, Root Multiple Signal Classification (RUtlt-l’v1lJSIC) is the best technique for estimation if IlK’ Short training symbol of the \vLAN frame is used. Direction of arrival measurement Llsing till’ IFEE802. J I n Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antennas gIves an estimation accuracy of ten degrees. Root- M U SI C algorithm can he implemented using field programrnal-!c gate array hardware to estimate time difference of arrival. However a slight deviation of performance occurred due to signal quantization in the hardware.
