Abstract The present investigation studies the antimicrobial activity of methanol leaves extract of seven plants, Psidium Guajava (Guava), Aloe vera (Aloe), Thymus vulgaris (Thyme), Ocimum basillicum (basil), Stevia rebaudiana (Stevia), Mentha piperita (peppermint) and Eruca sativa (Miller) on five selected microorganisms Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli and Candida albicans. Psidium guajava leaves extract showed inhibition for Staphylococcus aureus with MIC 12.5 mg/ml, Streptococcus agalactiae with MIC 25 mg/ ml and Pseudomonas aeruginosa with MIC 100mg/ml. While E.coli and Candida albicans did not show any inhibition in presence of Psidium guajava leaves extract. Thymus vulgaris leaves extract showed inhibition for Streptococcus agalactiae with MIC 50 mg/ml. On the other hand Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E.coli and Candida albicans did not affected by this leaves extract. Stevia rebaudiana showed antimicrobial activity on Staphylococcus aureus with MIC 100 mg/ml. Ocimum basillicum showed activity on Candida albicans at concentration of 200 mg/ml. Aloe vera leaves extract had an effect on Staphylococcus aureus with MIC 50 mg/ml and Streptococcus agalactiae 100 mg/ml. Mentha piperita leaves extract had MIC of 100 mg/ ml on Staphylococcus aureus and 200mg/ ml on Streptococcus agalactiae. Eruca sativa leaves extract did not affect any of the tested microorganisms. |
