Abstract The present thesis comprises three chapters. The first one includes a literature survey on the chemistry of 2-quinolones (carbostyriles), quinolines , 8-hydroxy quinolines and other structurally analogous systems . The complexing ability of the quinolones with a number of transition melals (e.g. Fe(lII), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II), in both the solid state and in solution was included. Moreover, the chelating properties of some bi-oxygen donor systems towards the lanthanide and actinirle metal ions of the present research problem devoted to investigate the acid base properties and evaluation of the acid dissoociation constants of the quinoline liqands in different organic aqueous media, as well as the stability constant of their complexes formed in solution pH-metrically. The synthesis , determination of the stoichiometry, mode of bondinq and the geometry of the isolated (La(III), Ce(III), Th(TV) and U(VI) )complexes aimed to be investigated based on elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods (lJV and IR) measurements. |
