Abstract
The agricultural crop residuals are considered one of the most important problems, which face the environmental life and farmers in Egypt. The mechanical treatment by cutting crushing or chopping and briquetting processes are the primary step and the suitable solution for solving this problem and recycling these residues to be transformed into useful products. So, the aim of the present work to get a high quality for cotton staik and rice straw briquettes. To achieve the objective of this research the following steps were carried: 1- Study of some physical and mechanical properties of cotton staiks. 2- Performance evaluation of local chopping machine for cotton staiks and rice straw. 3- Press these chopped residuals in screw press machine at a pressure 100MPa and temperature of 160 c at three moisture contents for cotton staiks (8, 10 and 12%), rice straw (8,10 and 12.80%) without binder and with binder (urea-formaldhyde) by 10% of the quantity choppes materials. 4- Study effect of moisture content and adding binder(urea-formaldhyde) on quality properties of cotton staik and rice straw briquettes such as durability, compression stress, hardness, bulkdensity, compression ratio, resiliency and gases emission such as CO, CO2,and SO2 to achieve the best criteria for handling process and conservation of the environment.
