Abstract

A more complete understanding of the interplay between adiponectin secretion,
THs and metformin treatment will likely lead to better approaches for the
management of thyroid disorders, type 2 diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis and
cardiovascular diseases.
In the current study we tried to investigate the interference between the thyroid
status and serum adiponectin concentration, assess the possibility of involvement
of adiponectin (through gC1q-R) in the regulation of thyroid hormone production
in thyroid gland tissue, clarify the role of pituitary-thyroid axis in the modulation
of adiponectin production from the adipose tissue and to assess the interplay
between metformin treatment (used commonly for the treatment of diabetes),
thyroid function and adiponectin formation
