Abstract

Diabetic nephropathy is a clinical syndrome characterized by a set of structural and functional kidney abnormalities in patients with diabetes mellitus and is the leading cause of end stage renal failure.
Visfatin is a newly discovered adipocyte hormone which has a relationship with T2DM.
The aim of this work was to investigate the alteration of visfatin level and its relation to the severity of nephropathy in T2DM patients.
The present study included 29 patients of T2DM with diabetic nephropathy. They were sub-divided according to the result of microalbuminuria into:
Group Ia: It consisted of 10 diabetic patients with normoalbuminuria. They were 5 males and 5 females with ages ranged between 46- 63 years Group Ib: It consisted of 10 diabetic patients with microalbuminuria. They were 5males and 5 females with ages ranged between 46- 63 years Group Ic: It consisted of 9 diabetic patients with proteinuria. They were 4 males and 5 females with ages ranged between 48– 69 years.
The control group comprised of 10 apparently healthy individuals (5males and 5 females) with mean age 52.90±3.41 (range 45 – 56 years) matched gender, and age with diabetic patients.
All individuals were subjected to detailed history taking, full clinical examinations, anthropometric measurements, laboratory investigations in the from of fasting blood glucose, lipid profile.
