Abstract Physically handicapped adults with musculoskeletal disabilities represent one of the major health problems in both developed and developing countries. This is because they become unable to take care of themselves, to ambulate and to do any daily activity. It is estimated that about 600 million people worldwide live with disabilities of various types. A study carried out in Egypt (2004) revealed that the rate of handicaps varied between 7% and 10%, while it does not exceed 4 to 5% in the developed countries. The rate of physically handicapped Egyptian adults with musculoskeletal disabilities was approximately 4%. On the other hand, physically handicapped adults with musculoskeletal disabilities are in need of becoming independent member in their society, attaining the education, jobs, careers, social interactions, recreation, health& well-being that all adults seek. Thus the community health nurse plays a major role in the care of the handicapped. Care should be provided in a way that respects the rights and wishes of individuals, focusing on wellness and health promotion and preparing the disabled in order to be able to make health related decisions in their adult life. Hence, the aim of the present study is to determine the needs of the physically handicapped adults in the vocational rehabilitation centers. The study was carried out in two rehabilitation centers and three rehabilitation offices namely (East, West, and Middle). The studied sample was (500) physically handicapped adults with musculoskeletal disabilities were selected, their age ranged from 20-60 years. |
