المستخلص This study was undertaken to investigate the potential role of Caulerpa prolijera and Sargassum subrepandum methanolic extract in management of hyperlipidemia and its complications in adult female rats. One hundred and twenty adult female Sprague Dawley rats were enrolled in the present study and they were assigned as (I) lean control group; (2) hyperlipidemic control group; (3) lean rats treated with C. prolijera methanolic extract; (4) lean rats treated with S.subrepandum methanolic extract; (5) hyperlipidemic rats treated with C.prolijera methanolic extract; and (6) hyperlipidemic rats treated with S.subrepandum methanolic extract. The results revealed that the treatment of hyperlipidemic rats with C. prolijera or S. subrepandum resulted in significant reduction in serum cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL level accompanied with significant elevation in serum HDL level. Also, algal extracts induced significant decrease in serum MDA and inorganic free radical (NO) levels in hyperlipidemic rats. In the same way the algal extracts caused significant decrease in both glucose and insulin levels. Furthermore, administration of C.prolijera and S. subrepandum extracts in hyperlipidemic rats produced significant depleti serum leptin and TNF-a level associated with signi rise in serum adiponectin level. These results indicated that C.prolifera S.subrepandum algal extracts play a vital roJ ameliorating hyperlipidemia and its complica particUlarly oxidative stress and inflammation. T findings may provide new concept for the developl of effective marine natural therapy for hyperlipidt: and its associated serious complications. |
