Abstract

Breast cancer is an economic burden, with its cost of illness being comprised of direct cost, morbidity cost, and mortality cost. QOL has become an important concept in cancer care and clinical trials have shown that changes in QOL are associated with changes in clinical variables including survival. Increasingly, QOL measurement has become important in evaluating the effects of cancer treatment in clinical trials and numerous QOL assessment tools are now available with good reliability and validity.
Aim of the study:
To assess QOL, its relation to different variables related to cancer among 180 females with breast cancer attending El-Minia oncology center during the period from June to December 2009, with a trial to improve the QOL of 85 female.
Subjects and methods:
This is a multiphasic hospital based study that started as a baseline descriptive followed by interventional study then post-intervention assessment of QOL, which carried out in El- Minia oncology center during the period from June to December 2009.
An approval was taken from the Ministry of Health and from the manager of El- Minia oncology center to obtain data about number of female breast cancer patients attending the center during the previous years and to facilitate the communication with personnel working in the center.
