Abstract Upper GI bleeding commonly presents with haematemesis and/or melena. H.pylori is one of the most common bacterial pathogens, which colonize the gastric mucosa, where it appears to persist throughout the host life unless the patient is treated. Our study included 70 consecutive patients, were admitted to pediatric department, Minia University Hospital and 30 Children as a control group during the period from February 2010 to January 2011. All patients in our study underwent baseline clinical examination and investigations including: Physical examination, Laboratory investigations, Upper G.I.T endoscopy, Rapid urease test and HpSA test. Our results clarified that the non-variceal bleeding was more prevalent than variceal bleeding and the frequency of H.pylori was higher in the non-variceal group especially in patients with gastritis. Recommendation Eradication of H.pylori infection is recommended in children with upper GI bleeding especially non-variceal bleeding. More studies needed to prove or disprove efficacy of ”laboratory triad” of elevated ALT, decreased albumin and H.pylori infection for predicting variceal and non-variceal bleeding. |
