Abstract
Benzylation of compounds 288a,b with benzyl chloride under
the previous conditions gave the S-benzylated bis-pyrimidines 293a,b
in high yields (Scheme 94). Upon treatment of compound 293a with
sodium ethoxide in ethanol, it underwent intramolecular Thorpe-
Ziegler cycIization and partial oxidation to furnish thienopyrimidine

Treatment of 288a with ethyl bromoacetate, in aq.KOH
furnished bis-{ thieno[2,3-djpyrimidin-4(1H)_one} 295 (Scheme 95).
