Abstract The researcher shows that in mammals freshly ejaculated sperm are incapable of fertilizing the ovum. They must first undergo capacitation ana AR during their transit throgh the female reproductive tract to become fully competent to fertilize an ovum. The cellular changes involved in sperm capacitation are poorly understood, but it is believed to be amultistep process involving many biochemical changes. These changes in membrance lipid composition increased permeability to certain ions such as Ca+2,achange in internal PH and increase in plasma membrance fluidity. |
