Abstract

Plenty amount of bacterial genomic data provides unparalleled opportunities for understanding the genetic and molecular bases of the
degradation of aromatic compounds. In this study 206 extradiol
dioxygenases type I (Edos) genes were collected, but only sixty-eight
genes were selected as aromatic compounds degrader. Sphingomonas
wittichii RW1, which is the only strain that can mineralize dibenzo-pdioxin
and its chlorinated derivatives. Study showed that at least three
new different extradiol dioxygenases type I genes are encoded in the
RW1 genome, namely edo9, edo10 and edo11. The three Edos genes
were amplified by PCR, cloned into pTz57R/T vector, and over
expression was detected by SDS PAGE. These findings may benefit in
the bioremediation of dioxin.
