Abstract

The present study was carried out at the experimental farm of
Animal Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Minia University.
The aims of the present work were to study the effect of active dry
yeast (ADY) and (ADY) plus Iodine supplementation in the ration of
lactating buffaloes on:
1- Milk yield and it’s composition.
2- Digestibility and the feeding value.
3- Some hematological, hormonal and biochemical parameters in
plasma.
4- The sensitivity of yeast cells to different doses of iodine in the
culture.
The two feed additives were active dry yeast (20g/h/d) and active
dry yeast (20g/h/d) plus 1.3 mg potassium iodide / kg dry matter intake.
Active dry yeast are increasingly used in ruminant nutrition as
feed additives to improve feed efficiency and performance and, at the
same time, to prevent health disorders, while iodine is an essential dietary
element for mammals, required for the synthesis of the thyroidal
hormones; thyroxin T4 (tetraiodothyronine) and its active form, T3
(triiodothyronine). Thyroidal hormones play a major role in the growth
and control of several metabolic processes.
Body weight change, dry matter intake, nutrients digestibility, milk
and milk constituent yields and some physiological responses were
parameters chosen to judge the effect of ADY and Iodine
supplementation in lactating buffaloes ration. Three experiments were
conducted in this study.
