Abstract The current study was undertaken to investigate the effectiveness of a suggested ESP program in enhancing students’ vocabulary building skills, reading comprehension and writing skills at the Faculty of Agriculture. To test the effectiveness of the suggested program in meeting First year students’ requirements of English at the Faculty of Agriculture, a pilot study was conducted. A quasi-experimental research design (one group pre-post test) was applied. A sample of forty students was selected from the First Year Faculty of Agriculture students at Fayoum University. Then, pre-post vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing tests were designed and administered to measure the development achieved in the vocabulary skills, reading and writing skills of the target students. Respectively, results indicated that there was a statistically significant difference at (0.01) level between the mean scores of the research sample on the pre and post application of vocabulary skills test in favor of post-application. Statistically significant difference at (0.01) level between the mean scores of the research sample on the pre and post application of reading comprehension test was found in favor of post application. There was also a statistically significant difference at (0.01) level between the mean scores of the research sample on the pre and post application of writing skills test in favor of post-application These results showed that the program proved to be effective in enhancing the vocabulary building skills, reading comprehension and writing skills of the target students.Accodingly, recommendations and suggestions were presented. |
