Abstract
Heterosis has long been observed in cotton, but to be of potential
value, a hybrid shou’d be more be profitable them the best available
commercial v<~rieties. This means that the hybrid would have to be
higher yielding and probably possesses superior fiber properties. Since a
cytopl8smic rn8le steri I ity and fertility restorer genes seemed to be
available, the hybrid cotton production appeCtrs to be feasible.
Consequently the question be raised whether the F 1 hybrid in cotton
would perform better than the available commercial varieties.
