Abstract Road traffic injuries are a major community health problem that causes severe injuries with increasing deaths each year. This is a Quasi-experimental study aimed to determine the impact of first aid training program directed to car-drivers about road traffic injuries in Port Said. It was carried out on 100 car-drivers. Data were collected by the researcher using two tools. First; interviewing questionnaire sheet to assess the car driver’s knowledge regarding first aid given to the injured victim. Second, an observational checklist to assess practices related to CPR, first aid of wound, bleeding, shock and fractures. Both tools were used before program implementation, immediate post, and 3 months after the program implementation to assess the improvement and acquisition of studied car- drivers’ knowledge and practice. The study indicated that; there were unsatisfactory knowledge and practice in relation to road traffic injuries and its first aid before intervention of the program. However, there was significant improvement in knowledge and practice of the entire sample after implementation of the program. Statistically significant relation was found between previous training with first aid theoretical knowledge and all observed practice in pre and follow- up tests. It can be concluded that the implemented program about first aid for road traffic injuries had a significant impact on car-drivers’ knowledge and practice. It was recommended to conduct and disseminate educational materials to raise community awareness about road traffic injuries and the appropriate first aid. Also first aid training and education should be mandatory before getting driving licenses and repeated before every renewing of the driving license. |
