Abstract The search for substitutes of petroleum and its refinery products had been the subject of many investigations in the last decades. After certain chemical transformations, vegetable oils being renewable source, non-toxic and biodegradable, were used extensively for this purpose. This thesis is a contribution in this field. The original work comprises four main parts : Part I : Synthesis and evaluation of some oleic acid esters as synthetic lubricants. Part II : Conversion of some vegetable oils into synthetic lubricants. Part III : Treatment of some vegetable oils with maleic anhydride, a route to synthetic lubricants. Part IV : Conversion of some vegetable oils into synthetic lubricants via two successive transesterifications. Keywords : Vegetable oils, synthetic lubricants, renewable sources, transesterification. |
