Abstract Safe health practices like: hand wash before (73.4%) and after patient contact (74.6%), wearing of gloves when dealing with patient (78.4%), use of personal protective equipment (59.5%), safe syringe disposal (67.9%) and proper waste sorting (75.3%) have been studied in 6 hospitals representing the different health sectors in Cairo. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of the above practices in different hospitals and to audit the practice of hand washing and safe injection using a direct observation list. Health care workers were asked to fill an anonymous self administered questionnaire and direct observations for auditing the practices were filled by the researcher. A training session for proper hand washing was done using hand wash tools. |
