Abstract

Several results clearly show that, overall, TIPS is an
extremely effective therapy for patients with severe BCS
inwhom medical treatment has failed.
The current study aimed at calculation of the success rate
of TIPS among Egyptian patients with BCS legible for this
intervention, identification of the main prognostic
factors/predictors of TIPS success and assessment of the quality
of life of these patients before and after TIPS.
To reach our aim, ٢٠ patients were included in this study
with confirmed diagnosis of BCS and eligible criteria for
radiological intervention.
All patients with any clinical presentations suggestive of
BCSwere subjected to full history taking, thorough clinical
examination, and radiological assessment with special stress on
the patency of hepatic veins, portal vein and IVC by abdominal
Doppler/US, upper GI endoscopy and laboratory investigations
including: liver profile, kidney function tests, complete blood
picture and thrombophilia work up, liver biopsy.
