Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the Mini sling operation versus the TOT sling operation as minimally invasive techniques in the management of SUI in female patients in a RCT. The primary objective was to evaluate the post operative outcome regarding the success rate of the procedure. Other secondary objectives were taken into consideration such as the operative time, the amount of bleeding during the operation, post operative complications, QOL assessment and the cost of each procedure.
Forty patients were recruited to the study, 20 patients for each operation. The surgery was done in Suez Canal University hospital and Naser Institute hospital in the period from January 2009 to January 2011.
All the patients were subjected to complete medical history and physical examination. Each patient fulfilled an incontinence questionnaire, also the IIQ-7 short form questionnaire. UDS were done pre operatively.
The data were statistically analyzed using the chi-square test, t student test, fisher exact test and the P.value was obtained and all my results were presented in tables.
There was no significant difference in all the socio demographic data, any of the severity components, the grading of the incontinence or eve the QOL affection by the problem pre operatively, so that we could fix all the variables between the both studied groups aiming to validate the randomization we did.
My results showed no significant difference between both groups regarding the intra operative complications, success rate of the procedure post operative complications, post operative de novo urge incontinence and QOL improvement.
There was significant difference between both groups in the items of the operative time needed and the amount of bleeding during the operation.
There was significant improvement in the grade of the UI post operatively. All the patients showed marked improvement in the OOL post operatively.
Also there was significant difference in the price of each procedure showing high price needed for the Mini sling operation
