Abstract Chronic renal failure (CRF) is a progressive, debilitating, chronic illness requiring nursing and medical interventions that include dialysis, education in lifestyle alterations, and dietary and fluid restrictions. Children undergoing hemodialysis are prone to get infection because they are immunosuppressed. Also the process of hemodialysis requires vascular access for prolonged periods in an environment where multiple children receive dialysis and they require frequent hospitalization and surgery. Nurses working in hemodialysis units have a prolonged contact with children from the start to the end of HD procedure and they are responsible for limiting children exposure to infection. Therefore, this study aimed to assess nurses’ knowledge about the infection control precautions at hemodialysis unit and to assess the application of infection control precautions among nurses in hemodialysis unit at El-Mansoura University Children’s Hospital. The study was conducted in hemodialysis unit at El-Mansoura University Children’s Hospital. All children attended the hemodialysis unit over a period of four months (34 children) and all nurses provided care for these children (11 nurses) comprised the subjects. |
