Abstract

New Historicism has been a postmodern, literary, critical, and historical theory that has tended to reshape the transformed traditional history, employing the literary texts to reach the historical truth, which always has been hidden by those who were in power. It has called for the return to history in literature in an attempt to challenge traditional history, with the tendency of denying any separation between text and context. New Historicism has been a postmodern call to re-appreciate and rethink history. Its reading has manipulated literary and nonliterary texts to discover the true history applying the premise that the correlation between the artist and his surrounding social circumstances could not be denied.
