Abstract The present study was under~en to investigate the effectiveness of the different techniques of teaching re- ading in the foreign language and to construct a precise and valid instrument to measure the reading comprehension competence of non-native speakers of English in the first year secondary. It was hoped that such an instrument would provide a more valid and practical device than any current- ly method used for the measurement of English reading comp- rehension skills. It was thought, too, that knowledge of the effectiveness of the well as knowledge of the students specific reading compreh ension skills would be helpful in developing more appropri ate tGaching techniques and procedures with regard to grade level, and English proficiency level. |
