Abstract

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune response attacks a person’s central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), leading to demyelination. It is one of the commonest causes of chronic neurological disability in young adults.
MRI with its different modalities plays an important role in the clinical management of multiple sclerosis.
MR imaging offers clinicians a range of applications for the management of MS, including:
• Support in diagnosis,
• Insights into pathogenesis,
• An understanding of prognosis relevant to individual patients,
• Monitor activity and
• Assistance in monitoring the effects of therapy
• The following table demonstrates the present and future role of MRI with its different modalities in the diagnosis and follows up of MS.
