Abstract
Benign prostatic enlargment commenly associated with voiding
dysfunction. Which has been recognized as a disease of old men for centuries.
Most cases of benign prostatic hypertrophy can be managed successfully
by either open or transurethral surgery, but when surgecal mangement is
contraindicated. The disease can cause considerable functional disability. So, trials
should be made to find ”Pills for the prostate” which may at least lessen the
symptoms.
Prolactin might be involved in prostatic growth, on this basis, a prolactin
inhibitor may be given as a medical treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy.
Bromocriptine is that prolactin inhibitor chosen by us for such a purpose. It is a
synthetic ergot alkaloid of poly peptide type, Known to have a pharmacological
effect on the prostate and it’s capsule.
Our work included 26 patient. all complained of prostatism ”(6) of them
did not complete the trial due to the side effect of the drug. So the net number is 20
case)” their ages ranged form 57 to 78 years old. and 5 healthy men of the same
age taken as a control group.
