Abstract

QNWL is viewed as a wide-ranging concept that includes not only providing adequate and fair salary, equitable reward system, safe and healthy working conditions through; providing good supervision with immediate feedback, open communications between all health care team, and participation in decision making. But also, it is intended to ensure good balance between work and home responsibilities. In the light of this, QNWL is essential for the organization to continue to attract and retain nurses as it has a significant impact on the nurses’ behavioral responses, such as job satisfaction, job performance, and turnover.
Aim of the study
The present study aims to examine the relationship between the quality of nursing work life and job satisfaction in the acute care units.
Setting
The study was conducted in all acute care units at the Alexandria Main University Hospital (N=14 units) with bed capacity range from 2 to 19 beds for each and classified as follows 4 Critical Care Units namely (unit one, unit three, emergency recovery, and poison unit), 7 Intensive Care Units namely (Chest ICU, Neurology, Diabetes ICU, Burn, Facio-Maxillary, Anesthesia, and ENT), One Emergency Unit namely: emergency ICU, and 2 Coronary Care Unit.
Subjects
All nursing staff working in acute care units were included in the study (N= 250) and classified as follow; head nurses (N=14), professional nurses (N=72), all technical nurses (Technical Health Institute Diploma) (N=35) and all practical nurses (Secondary Technical Nursing Diploma) (N= 129).
