Abstract

Typhoid Fever infection has a wide spread distribution, but the prevalence varies between developed and developing countries.
Infection is reported more frequently in children above 5years.
In United states fewer than 500 cases each year infected, in contrast in developing countries such as Algeria 3-22/100,000 and Libya 7-21/100,000 were infected annually.
To define the epidemiological character of a disease, one needs a diagnostic test that is inexpensive, reliable and readily available across abroad spectrum of population.
The development of new non-invasive reliable serological tests has opened the door for epidemiological exploration.
The study aimed to evaluate the significance of widal test in the diagnosis of Typhoid fever in children in Menoufia Governorate.
A Series of one hundred and three(103) febrile children Attending Fever hospitals were included in our study, were assayed for the presence of Anti- O antigen measured by Widal agglutination test and proved by stool and blood culture and studied for the effect of age, sex relation to the known diagnostic symptoms and sign and other risk factors who influencing the prevalence of infection.
Their ages were 1year to <18 year.
Blood samples were withdrawn and assayed for the presence of Anti-O antigen by Widal test.
It was observed that the overall positive cases of Widal test were89/103, by culture 76/103cases were positive for S.Typhi.
In trial to study The titre by which we can diagnose typhoid fever infection in endemic Menoufia Governorate and real symptoms and signs for diagnosis and treatment , we found a highly significant difference between positive cases and negative cases in sign as coated tongue and significance for Toxic Look only from all known clinical criteria.
