Abstract

Many cancer patients had symptomatic neurological complications during the course of their illness. Survival rates for children with cancer have continued to increase dramatically over the last several decades. Neurological problems are a common reason for hospitalization for both adult and pediatric patients with systemic cancer. Therapeutic improvements, longer survival times and improved imaging modalities have increased both the amount of time at risk and the possibility of detecting such complications. The incidence, timing, etiology and treatment of neurological sequelae in children with cancer has not been extensively evaluated.
In the present study, the aim was to study the neurologic complications of childhood tumors as regarding its timming (as first presentation, under treatment of chemotherapy and/ or radiotherapy and as a sequelae of cancer).
To achieve that we did a retrospctive study on childern with cancer who presented to Oncology Unit, Pediatric Department, Zagazig University Hospital in the period between January 2007 and December 2009.
