Abstract The present work aimed mainly to:a. Clarify the adverse effects of diabetes mellitus and hypertension on cardiac outcomes as well as to focus on the characteristic features of cardiac remodeling induced by diabetes and hypertension particularly cardiac fibrosis to address the molecular mechanism underlying them. b. Evaluate the effect of PPAR-ɣ agonist (rosiglitazone) either monotherapy or in combination with one of the calcium channel blockers (felodipine) on modulating cardiac complications in experimentally diabetic hypertensive rats. This is achieved via measurement of: 1) Blood pressure. 2) Serum: glucose, lipids profile and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α). 3) Tissue: transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), collagen-I and collagen- III. Histological study was performed on cardiac cells using hematoxylin and eosin stain to examine the effect of diabetes mellitus, hypertension and different treatments on cellular changes. |
