Abstract

To mange pam and relieve a child’s suffering are crucial
elements of a health care professionals commitment. Research studies
demonstrate that despit the availability of effective techniques for pain
management in childem,nurses less effectively manage their pain than
the in adult. Therefore, the present study is aiming at enriching nurses
knowedge and skills about in hospitalized school -age children.
A pre/post true experimental study was carried out on a sample of
60 pediatric nurses, working in medicine wards in the specialized
pediatric section (30 nurses included in the experimental group and
the an_pther 30 nurses considered as control group).
The tools used for data collection are,socio-demographic data
sheet, questionnaire sheet to assess nurses’s knowledge about
assessment and mangement of pain in hospitalized school-age childern,
which contained 48 items (Appendix 1). Two pain.assessment tools
were used to train nurses how they can assess the intensity of pain.
Oucher scale and Body Outline scale were used (Appendix II). Also
three observational checklists were utilized to evaluate nurses skills
regarding assessment and management of pain in hospitalized schoolage
children. The first checklist was about the using of Oucher scale,
second one about utilization of Body Outline Scale, and the third was
about the using of progressive Muscle Relaxation Technique
(P .M.R. T) (Appendix III).
