Abstract

The three-phase commercial installations and single-phase residential sized installations for photovoltaic (PV) power generation are growing in geographic regions with good solar radiation. PV sources can be described as intermittent sources because their power production is a function of ever changing environmental conditions. Increased numbers of these intermittent sources are very essential to have a significant impact on the power systems. This work presents a simulation model for PV generation. The mathematical modeling of PV generator is investigated and developed using a proposed simulation to calculate power output based on the environmental conditions. The calculated current-voltage and power-voltage parameters using the proposed model are compared to that obtained from manufacturer data sheet. from this comparison, it has been found that, the proposed simulink model has identical results with the manufacturer data sheet. This PV generator is integrated into the power system using flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS). The performance of FACTS had been studied and clarified using series and parallel connections. The unified power flow controller (UPFC)model has been implemented for inter-area test system in order to improve stability.
