Abstract This study was carried out to assess morbidity pattern in MSW collectors in Mansoura City municipality as they suffer from major health problems, and no past studies have investigated the actual prevalence of these health problems and their risk factors in Mansoura City. A descriptive cross-sectional study with a comparison group was carried out upon solid waste collectors working in the Western Municipality of Mansoura city during the period from 1st of January, 2011 to 31 August, 2011. Each collector was subjected to interview, clinical examination, and investigations which include RFT, urine and stool analysis, hemoglobin level, and Hepatitis B & C markers. A higher prevalence of all ailments was found among MSW collectors than among comparison group. The most frequent ailments were: respiratory and gastrointestinal complaints; followed by skin and nail; musculoskeletal; and circulatory. Further studies with larger sample size should be undertaken to identify the factors responsible for increased prevalence of morbidities. |
