Abstract

Dying of the endometrium is relatively recent technique in the literature, first reported 2006 unlike gastrointestinal chromoendoscopy. This study was conducted between April 2009 and April 2011 and included 150 patients with peri- and postmenopausal bleeding recruited from OBGYN clinic in menofiya university hospital. All the patients underwent chromohysteroscopy after initial hysteroscopic view had revealed no macroscopic lesions then directed biopsies were taken from dark stained areas then D&C biopsy were performed for all patients there were no any reported complications. The main results revealed that positive staining was observed in 70 women, also positive staining was significantly more prevalent in postmenopausal women. Every patient of those had 2 biopsies, one chromohysteroscopy directed and the other was D&C biopsy. When the 2 groups of specimens were compared, chromohysteroscopy directed biopsy was more detectable for endometrial pathologies especially endometritis so that 3 more cases of hyperplasia were detected (one perimenopausal and 2 postmenopausal), 5 more cases of endometritis were also detected (2 perimenopausal and 3 postmenopausal) in addition to one case of endometrial carcinoma, although not reaching the level of stastistical significance, these results should be taken in consideration. It seems that chromohysteroscopy improves the accuracy of conventional hysteroscopy in the diagnosis of microscopic endometrial pathologies. This simple technique opens a new avenue in the diagnosis of endometrial pathology. Large scale study is needed to verify these conclusions.
